In this book the well known Soviet
scholars K. Gusev and V. Naumov relate in popular form the history of
the first socialist state in the world.
The establishment of the dictatorship of the proletariat led by the
Communist Party paved the way for the resolution in a short interval of
such cardinal problems as the overcoming of social, economic and
political backwardness; the creation of a powerful economy, permitting
the USSR to become an industrial power and to expand its defence
capacities; the persistent upgrading of the living standards and culture
of the workers.
Placing emphasis on the fundamental stages and tasks of the building of
socialism, the authors demonstrate that authentic social progress is
feasible only through the path of socialism and communism.
